A $4.5 million investment into the trails town of Dwellingup, is set to harness the locality's untapped potential and transform it into a tourist town of national and future international, significance.

Project components:

  • Hotham Valley Railway Rail Relocation - relocation of the rail triangle and the implementation of a new train turntable
  • Visitor Centre Expansion - redevelopment of an expanded and transformed Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre with additional toilets and hot showers
  • Precinct Development - skate park, pump track and additional facilities
  • Munda Biddi Trail and Bibbulmun Track - realignment of the two through the town to meet at the Trails Centre

This consequential project will maximise Dwellingup’s natural assets as well as the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway attraction, better incorporating the rail trails into the town’s trail offering, and transform Dwellingup into a truly unique tourism experience.

Proudly supported by: The Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, the State Government through the Local Projects Local Jobs Fund and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, Alcoa, Hotham Valley Tourist Railway and Dwellingup Community Association Inc.

In January 2019, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ Parks and Wildlife Service opened three new downhill mountain bike trails, catering for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders, the first of over 25km planned for the Murray Valley Mountain Bike Trail Network.

The “Year one” Green Trail, “Boom Boom” Blue Trail and “Bam Bam” Black Trail, offer a great experience for any mountain bike enthusiast.

The pump track is amazing and well used by our family and friends. One concern is the drainage pipes being open ended. Small children are able to hide in these pipes (and have) which is a safety concern. Is there any chance of getting mesh on these pipes?

Tessa asked almost 2 years ago

Hi, thank you for your feedback!

As part of the Dwellingup project, the Shire is currently in the process of designing barriers for installation within the pipes to prevent access. These should be in place just in time for summer.

    Thanks - Katherine.
