Murray 2030 Draft Strategic Community Plan 2019 - 2030


The Strategic Community Plan was adopted by Council at its ordinary meeting on Thursday 23 May 2019, with over 83% of respondents supportive of the blueprint and only minor changes to the document necessary.

Most comments considered were in relation to the details that will be/are included in other Shire strategies, including:

  • Corporate Business Plan - under development
  • Communications and Engagement Strategy - presented to Council for adoption in June
  • Economic Development Strategy
  • Local Planning Strategy - under review
  • Local Planning Scheme - under review
  • Community Infrastructure Plan - under review
  • Tourism Strategy - under development
  • Region-wide health and wellbeing review - completion expected early 2020
  • Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan - under development

Murray 2030, the Shire’s draft Strategic Community Plan 2019 - 2030, has been prepared as the blueprint that will guide the Shire of Murray over the next ten years.

Vision:

By 2030 the Shire of Murray will be a place where business thrives, we protect our environment and all residents enjoy an outstanding quality of life.

Focus Areas and Aspirations for 2030:

1. Places for People

Murray will have created great places for people through strong partnerships with the community; innovative urban design and improved the wellbeing and quality of life for residents.

2. Thriving Economy

Murray will have a diverse and prosperous economy that supports innovation, training opportunities and provides a variety of business, tourism and employment opportunities.

3. Environment, Character and Heritage

Murray will be effective stewards of the environment, history, heritage, natural landscape and rural character.

4. Connected and Accessible

Murray will have enhanced our transport linkages and opportunities to share information using a variety of travel and technology options.

5. Capable and Accountable

Murray will have further developed strong leadership through good governance, effective communication and ensuring value for money.

Objectives, Strategies and Measures:

The aspirations are further broken down into a number of objectives. The extent to which each objective is achieved will depend on the implementation of specified strategies.

A number of measures will be used to ascertain progress.
