We're undertaking a review of the Sir Ross McLarty Sports Precinct Masterplan adopted in 2008, including consideration of the existing facilities, resident club operations and anticipated growth.

At present, the Precinct comprises a mix of ageing infrastructure that is no longer fit-for-purpose or unused and new modern facilities. Additionally, four buildings are over 40 years old and therefore do not meet current disability access requirements or contemporary design principles of gender-neutral amenities.

Project objectives:

  1. Confirm the condition, use, life expectancy and functionality of existing infrastructure:
    • Old Horse and Pony Clubrooms and grounds
    • George Beacham Pavilion
    • McLarty Sports Pavilion (senior AFL clubrooms)
    • Lovegrove Hall (old Pinjarra Tennis club)
    • Sports lighting on the main AFL oval, cricket turf oval and tennis courts
  2. Identify the existing and future needs of the clubs located at the Precinct and any potential new sporting, recreational or cultural activities or uses that may emerge
  3. Identify opportunities for the rationalisation and consolidation of existing infrastructure and develop recommendations for disposal, upgrades and new builds, including high level costs and indicative timing to inform the Shire’s Community Infrastructure Plan and Long Term Financial Plan
  4. Identify opportunities for clubs to share facilities and develop management options that will maximise facility use and club sustainability
  5. Create a vibrant, accessible and contemporary community, sporting and recreational hub that services Shire residents and visitors
